The Translation
Jogendra Nath Sanyal (J. M. Sanyal) produced the first complete English translation of the Srimad Bhagabatam (his transliteration), published in five volumes between approximately 1909 and 1932 in Calcutta. It covers all twelve skandhas (cantos) and 335 chapters in full.
The translation is in the Victorian prose style characteristic of the period — formal, faithful to the Sanskrit structure, and rich in Sanskrit terminology. It does not paraphrase or modernize. This makes it ideal as a scholarly reference text.
Public Domain Status
Sanyal's translation was published before 1927 and is in the public domain in the United States and most jurisdictions. This site will use it as its primary English layer once the OCR pipeline for the five volumes is complete.

Status on this site
The English translation layer is currently in preparation. The Gujarati OCR layer (from the
Internet Archive scan of the Bhagwat Mahapuran in Gujarati) is live for all 335 chapters.
Sanyal's English will be added as the translation layer once OCR processing and
chapter-splitting are complete.
